About Us

The Hopbrook Institute is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018 by Gerald Friedman of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The mission of Hopbrook is to provide a forum for the development of progressive policy in collaboration between activists and academic researchers.  Contributors believe that popular collective action, including the work of labor and other popular movements, is fundamental to reverse the rising tide of corporate power and increasing inequality that threatens American living standards.  At Hopbrook, we hope to provide research and analysis to help these movements of popular resistance; focusing on health care, but also other areas of economic policy.
